We believe that an eating disorder is an illness that if left
untreated may result in death. The lack of proper nutrition will
result in severe problems in a person’s life, physically,
emotionally, spiritually, socially, and also in the lives of
their families and friends. The EDP is based on the
understanding that treatment for an eating disorder requires a
team approach with a caring, positive attitude in which all
patients are treated with respect and dignity.
The primary goal of the EDP is to improve a patient’s
self-image, increase his/her awareness of the necessity of
proper nutrition and assist the patient in identifying the
stressors which have led to his/her self-destructive behavior.
The overall goal of treatment is to help patients and their
families begin recovering from the self-destruction that the
eating disorder has caused in their lives and to help them
maintain a healthy body weight and lead a healthy lifestyle in
the absence of binging, purging or refraining from proper
dietary intake. Recovery begins with the willingness for
treatment and may continue throughout life. Treatment is the
initial step on the pathway to recovery and is essential in
achieving a productive and fulfilling life. Eating disorders are
considered to be a family illness, affecting family members in
all areas of their lives; therefore, treatment of the family is
an essential part of the EDP .
We believe that youth with a diagnosis of an eating disorder can
be assisted in their recovery through a highly structured
long-term setting. We believe that each individual possesses
talents, strengths, and resources, that when accessed, will
enable him or her to reach his or her full potential. Youth who
have experienced profound stressors and traumas are viewed from
a multi-dimensional perspective and are provided care that is
based on a clinical philosophy of utilizing a continuum of
therapeutic interventions, reflecting the developmental
uniqueness of each patient.
