Admission to the EDP
may occur as a transition from another level of care, a transfer
from another facility, or a referral from the community,
including schools, agencies, and other professionals. The
patient, accompanied by their family, may also seek care
directly. All care must be pre-authorized as part of the
admissions process and/or appropriate financial arrangements
must be completed.
Criteria for Admissions
The EDP is designed to accommodate and treat youth suffering
from a variety of eating disorder issues. Some common DSM IV
admission diagnoses for EDP patients include: Anorexia Nervosa;
Bulimia Nervosa; Eating Disorder NOS; Binge Eating Disorder.
Admission is indicated when one or more of the following
criteria are met:
1. The patient
has a history of an eating disorder
and meets criteria for a DSM-IV, Axis I
diagnosis.
2. The patient has failed less restrictive levels of
care.
3. Evidence of a specific problem, or cluster of
problems that are best treated in a long-term
setting.
4. The patient must be aged 12-17, or 18 if still
in high school.
5. The patient must be medically stable.
6. The patient must be able to verbalize a
willingness and desire to participate in
treatment.
7. The patient must be able to function within a
group setting.
Initial Screening and Clinical Assessment/Admission
The first contact may be made by a physician, therapist, or
a representative of the Department for Community Based
Services (DCBS) on behalf of a patient in need of long-term
treatment. The patient may also present for treatment on
their own, accompanied by a parent or guardian, and be
screened through the Assessment Office at The Ridge. After
the initial assessment, a decision will be made as to
whether the patient is appropriate for admission to the EDP.
